From Association President Kevin L. Miller -

Marvin Myers (24 July 1936 - 12 November 2017)

(14 November 2017)  It is with a heavy heart that we report on the passing of former Association President Marvin Myers. For someone who loved Veterans so much, it seemed only fitting that he passed within hours of Veterans Day.

A Ranger-qualified Army Helicopter Pilot and Vietnam Veteran, Marvin earned the Silver Star and other awards during his years of military service. More important than any of those awards, he earned the respect of his fellow Veterans for his desire to ensure Veterans were never forgotten and that their service must be honored. He founded the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance as a fitting tribute to his brother and sisters who served in the Vietnam War.

The attached photo was taken last year at the 2016 Freedom Ball during the presentation of the Marvin Myers Leadership Award to Georgia Department of Veteran Services Commissioner Mike Roby. After I had taken over as President, we decided to name this award in his honor which would be presented each year to those in the Veteran community who worked tirelessly in support of our Veterans.

Marvin Myers will be missed - by his family and the many friends he left behind. And by those Veterans that he worked so hard to represent. However, we can all take comfort in the memories that we have of our times together and the impact he had in leading our great association.

Our prayers are with his family during this time of sorrow.

Kevin L. Miller
